Will Run for T-shirts

When God was passing out the love of running genes, I was waiting in line for the love to lift weights sweatshirt.

While I love the way I train, I envy people who run. Runners have discipline, grace, lean bodies, and really cute t-shirts.

If I was a runner, I’d get this shirt…

2160387202_0071229640752-2

..and definitely this tank top…

2160386181_0371226593563And, if I was really fierce, I’d wear this t-shirt…

2160387202_0041229640589Ironically, my sista, Jennifer, told me about Sistas Shirts, the company that makes these shirts! How crazy is that? Sistas Shirts has an entire line of sassy accessories that have been featured in Sports Illustrated and Runners World, too. And guess, what? They are going to give a short sleeved “Run Like A Girl” t-shirt in black or pink to one Fitness & Spice reader.

Here’s how to enter the drawing: In the comments section below tell us why you run, maybe it will convince me to hit the ground running. The contest will close on Wednesday, November 11th and the winner will be announced on Thursday, November 12th.

Now, I better run, I mean drive, to the gym…Pastalavista, Baby!

Do I dare make the first comment….? I run because I want to speed into the finish line of my upcoming tri. I used to run because I wanted to lose weight, or because I was binging. NOT ANY MORE!

Joanna,
I love the saying on that first t-shirt!! I run to improve my cardiovascular health sometimes, and then other times I just run for mental clarity (it’s a good time for me to think). Oh…and what Michelle says too – to speed into that finish line at the tri’s!! (and ummm….for obvious reasons, I’ll skip being in the running for the t-shirt) (pun kind of intended!!).

When I start running, I run to get it over with. Sorry, but that’s the truth. Hope my comment did not disqualify me. Ugh.

I run because I want to learn how to do it right for the first time in my life. I started out at 350 lbs on Sept. 1, 2009, and I’m getting close to 300. I’ve incorporated running intervals into my walking routine and have completed two 5K races in the last two weeks, partly running them! So, I run because I CAN, finally. I have scheduled a 5K race each month to track my progress and maintain short-term goals for my weight-loss and fitness journey. Seriously, if I can do it, anyone can!

I run to lose weight. I’ll admit it ;) My husband runs to qualify for the Boston and succeeds. Um…i’ll NEVER be that sort of runner.

I run because it’s a way to get time with my husband.  He travels a lot, and his time at home is short.  He’d take off for runs because he’s always been a runner, but that was a half hour of the maybe 12 he was home that week.  So I run for my marriage!

AHhhh!!! FANTASTIC giveaway :) LOVE it!

I started running because I knew I could, and I wasn’t going to let my old-self tell me no anymore. It was a battle within myself to push beyond discomfort and achieve  a goal that to me was huge. :) Since April (when I started running) I’ve ran four 5K’s and one 10 mile race. :) I don’t know think I’d ever have thought I could do that, until I told myself I could. And that’s why I run.

I run because I can. When I was 305 pounds running wasn’t an option. In fact, even walking to the mailbox was hard. But when I was able I started running – not fast – but running none the less. I run because I can.

I really walk more than run, but it is a sport that you can do almost anywhere – no fees, no real equipment needed, except good shoes and listening to tunes does not hurt. Will walk the Vegas 1/2 marthon Dec 6th with my granddaughter and 2 daughters. I am 70+ years of age and knees are still holding up. Great way to stay fit and have fun

I basically run because I was born without that gene too! I always wanted to be a runner, so I decided why can’t I be one? Just had to come to terms with my slowness and short legs ;-)

Great giveaway (and blog!)

This is a great blog. And I am sooo proud of you for the run you accomplished this past weekend. If you don’t normally run, running a 4 mile race is a big deal. So you go girl!! I run because when I started exercising (about 4 years ago while I was on a business trip with my best friend in the whole world) I swore I would only be walking. That I wasn’t going to do the “running thing”. And then as I continued down the exercising journey, I realized that walking was enough any more and my legs and body wanted more. So I gradually started to run, instead of walk. And now I can’t stop. I don’t always enjoy the actual experience, but the way I feel when I’m done, is amazing. I don’t run far and I definitely don’t run fast, but I do it and for the most part, really like it.

I am not entering the contest because I think a “Run Like a Girl” tshirt on me might look a little weird – although I do like the bottle of wine one, very clever.  Anyway…why I run.

I run to stay in shape, plain and simple.  It is really not something I terribly enjoy.  It’s not really something that I want to do, but I realize to maintain fitness and a healthy lifestyle it is important.

There is however one thing I love about running and it is the time I get to spend with myself and my music.  That is FUN!!

Hi Joanna! Just found your blog via TeamGiles.com, and I love it! Being a runner isn’t about pace or how fast you can run a race, it’s about getting in the miles and feeling great after a tough run. Once you run your first 5K, you’ll be hooked and feel like a million bucks. Just run for the fun of it. Those shirts are so cute…why wouldn’t you want to be a runner? :D

I run because I need something in which I can lose myself in thought and yet simultaneously be active. Running (and walking, I started out slow!) is the most natural of human activities and I always find that within 5 minutes, my mind is off contemplating things I never otherwise find time to do. Sometimes, I think of nothing and just clear my mind. There’s a calm about the steady beat of my feet on the ground that allows me to focus, somewhat like a mantra. Most of the time, I don’t even use my iPod – I now find it too much of a distraction, oddly enough.

And you will improve quickly! I used to be more of a weight lifting kind of gal, too. When I started more of a running workout back in June, I could barely walk a mile or two without giant, heaving, exhausted breaths. Just yesterday I finished my first 10-mile run. The hardest part is getting started. And your fitness journal will help you out a ton with your endeavors!

LOVE those shirts! I run because it’s what makes my body look best. It’s just part of the magic equation for me (along with yoga and eating healthy of course). Also, it requires no equipment and can be done anywhere. Doesn’t get much better than that!

I run because I love cupcakes! I run to remind myself that I’m strong. I run so my daughter will see exercise in a positive light and so she will see that I am strong. I run to have some time that’s just for me. I run because it’s cheaper than therapy. I run to stay healthy because I want to be around long enough for my daughter to run a marathon with me.

Great giveaway. Can I tell you why I DON’T run? haha. My feet easily callus and I have plantar warts that get inflammed when I run. Yeah, you wanted to know that….. So when I run I only do so for a short distance, and I normally just speed walk or use the elliptical (no pounding with the elliptical). I still like the shirts though!!

AWESOME shirts!
The reason I began to run is because I’ve always admired the strong, determined ease of the runners I’ve seen jogging on the side of the highway. With that, I decided to give it a go.
The reason I CONTINUED to run is because it has allowed me to sort through my inner thoughts, and take notice of all the little things going on around me. I am able to dedicate an entire hour of my day to my thoughts alone, and have never known myself more clearly than I currently do.
Running has reintroduced me to myself

I run becasue I can. I’m surrounded by people, adults and kids, that can’t run for many reasons, or even walk sometimes….but want to. I feel like I’m letting them down if I don’t get after it.
And being the control freak that I am, my run is the one true thing that I have complete control of. No matter what happens in my day I choose to have the power to get out and use my negative energy to fuel a run….and feel like a brand new, energized, positive, powerful person afterwards. Can’t really live without it! Thanks for your blog Joanna…..I’ve just started looking at it and I think it’s great. Good work

I have a lot of respect for those that run. When I started reading blogs, a lot of bloggers talk about training for %ks and marathon and that has encouraged me to start running. A lot of people recommended the couch to 5K and I’m trying it. I really want to be a runner!
