A Really Bright Idea

You know how some people have “the good towels” they only put out for company? Or the “good china” they only use once maybe twice a year? Yeah, I have those, too. I also have “the good candles” I only burn on special occasions. Why do we do this? Aren’t we good enough for these good things everyday?

I have been burning a candle that Shannon from Revival Soy sent me to try out. Let me tell you, I love it. Shame on me for not lighting candles more often. I love the ambiance candle light brings to my home, not to mention the fact that my entire place smells like…IMG_7000…Sugar & Spice (a candle named after me or my site, I’m sure).

Revival says their First Flame of Soy Candles…IMG_6998

  • Contain no carcinogens allowing us to breathe easy
  • Have lead-free wicks
  • Are non-toxic and biodegradable
  • Longer Burning – slower and cooler – as much as 35% longer than regular candles!
  • Highly fragrant all the way through the candle
  • Made from Soybeans – Supports American Farmers
  • Are hand-poured

Three Fitness & Spice readers are going to win a First Flame of Soy Candle from Revival Soy. But only if you take this Random Acts of Fitness & Spice challenge. I propose we do something special for ourselves, after all, we work hard in the gym, at work, at school, at home, right? Tell us in the comments section below one thing you are going to do to pamper yourself over the next few days and I’ll tell you who won on Friday, December 18th.

Now I really must go splash on the good perfume…I never know when I might run into an old flame!

couldn’t agree more on the unnecessary conservation of various things for special occasions although i’m guilty as charged – especially with the good candles and beautiful journals. i love journals and paper so much that i buy them and then i don’t want to write in them and mess them up! what good are they in a drawer? aren’t humans funny? so here’s what i’m doing to pamper myself: i’m taking 2 hours out of the hustle and bustle of my day tomorrow to meet a girlfriend for starbucks (of course) and then we’re going to get pedicures while we have our own little christmas relaxation together before everyone starts going their separate ways. i tend to get so busy that my little toes never get a pedi anymore – so that’s my treat to me!

my mom has a plethora of ’special occasion’ things that havent been used in years. i guess the occasions have yet to be special enough.

as for me, i’m going to make a point to focus on the good aspects of myself instead of dwelling on all the things i want to change.  a little mental pampering, if you will.  maybe i’ll bust out the special occasion brain cells, too :)

for me … I’m going to get a pedicure, with bright red (!!) polish … my tootsies need it after all my hard workouts AND shopping … I’m going to luxuriate in TIME – at least three hours without husband and kids to get some special wrapping done … and I’m going to a girlie party on Monday night – ok, so it’s outside the time window but still something I’m looking forward to !!! And I LOVE candles :))))))))))

I’ve had a tough Fall semester but now that’s it over, I’m just heading home to spend time with my family and watch (too much) T.V.! It may not be “pampering” myself but it’s so relaxing for me, and I definitely need some relaxation!

We have a soy candle shop right down the street from us. They make great gifts!

In the next few days I am going to take two days off working out, as a way to pamper myself! Yeah. I may do something really light on those days, like walking on the treadmill, but I’m overall giving myself a nice break. YOu know what else I’m going to do? Get a peppermint latte at Starbucks! I haven’t had one yet. Crazy, I know.

I think I am going to enjoy a good book for a solid hour after I paint my toenails

What a great giveaway! I love soy candles. As far as pampering goes, I am going to commit to getting to yoga at least every other day during the next week. In the midst of holiday craziness, yoga is the only thing that keeps me sane!

Oh I love soy candles. They are so much better! As for pampering myself…does working out count? LOL. I have to do my nails for a fancy schmancy party…that probably doesn’t count either. Maybe I will soak in a tub for more than 5 minutes with a mud mask.

I’ll pamper myself by trying to rest and sleep this coming weekend. I work the night shift and my sleep hours this week has been bad.

I’m going to lock myself in my room and pretend I don’t hear my kids trying to claw their way through the door as husband naps. This is how I attempt to get pampering peace at my house.

Sorry. I know it’s not splendorific. But In my fake life I’d go get a real massage at a spa to pamper myself.

I’ll pamper myself with a big, delicious lunch right before my last final so I’m full and focused and a good dessert afterwards to celebrate

I find myself running around so fast from this place to the next, and in the midst of all of that decorating the house, wrapping presents, etc that I don’t find myself appreciating it. So my plan to pamper myself this weekend, is to make a fire, turn the lights down low in the living room, play some Christmas music, and sit in the big, comfy chair by our Christmas tree, and just RELAX and enjoy the room around me. This will have to be done after the kiddos go to bed, however. :)

I am going to pamper myself by sending my hubby out shopping with all 5 little boys!! YAY! He’s promised to take them on Saturday and I can’t wait to have some time alone. (The girls have plans.)

What perfect timing on your question…I just found out yesterday I get to pamper myself with a massage since I got one as a gift this season! :)

To pamper myself, I am going to let myself sleep in this weekend. I normally set an alarm every day of the week, but things have been so hectic lately that I have been pushing back bedtime each night (but still getting up crazy early). So this weekend, I will get out of bed whenever I finally wake up, despite my long list of ‘to-dos’.

Love your site!

For pampering…I am going to enjoy turning 39 tomorrow – by taking the day off of work -letting my hair be curly- wearing sweats- and just being me.:)

Pampering…hmmmm…in my DREAMS, I would be able to get a nice, long massage! But I might have to settle for a nice, long bath :-) I’d love to have a soy candle burning along with the bath!

Hi Joanne. I spend most of my year struggling as a single parent, constantly having to pay out for the increasing purse that 2 teenagers are and keeping roof and food on plate, and I never buy myself anything, but I dont mind. I am happy that they have what they need and that brings me joy and a sense of achievement that they dont go without. Now I find, as usual, at this time of year, I get pleasure out of buying nice, thoughtful gifts for family and friends, and I always buy with the notion that it is something I would really appreciate or love myself. Your article was so timely, as only the other day I thought to myself ‘why dont you treat yourself to a gift too some time’ and dont feel guilty. Because that is the feeling I get if I dare pick anything up with the intention of buying for myself. And that is how I am going to pamper myself today. I saw a lovely red top the other day that I really liked, whilst out buying gifts for others, picked it up several times and put it down, not being able to justify why I should buy this for myself. But you are so right. Why do we not treat ourselves to that nice top, or good hand cream, good candle and only reserve it for others. I will succeed in pampering myself today, by walking straight into that shop, picking up that lovely red top to wear over the holiday, and buying it, without guilt, without putting it down a few times again, or thinking about it.

My husband had a gift card from last Christmas. Making online purchases helped not at all since they only take gift cards in person at local businesses. He asked me if I could help him spend it, so I decided to oblige him. We went to a Chinese art of foot care, and he saved his gift card by using it before it expired, and took care of buying me a series of 10 sessions for my Christmas present. His shopping was all done, I was happy, and the end of the matter was satisfactory for all.
