I’m one of those people that sets some pretty impressive New Year’s resolutions every year that I never keep. For example, two years ago I decided I was going to learn how to speak Italian. So far I can say this (right, Dad?): Ti va un’isalata verde come contorno? Which means: Would you like a green salad as a side dish? That’s about the extent of my Italian vocabulary, which is great if I ever want to have a short lived career as a waitress in Rome.
Recently, my friend MizFit introduced me to Seth Simonds who blogs and vlogs at Primal Stride. As I was browsing Seth’s site I was incredibly impressed with a video he posted about setting realistic goals. Little goals. Achievable goals like drinking one more glass of water a day for a week. How hard is that? It sounds like a type of goal I could set and actually keep.
I shot Seth a quick note asking him if he would be willing to create our next Random Acts of Fitness & Spice challenge to give our New Year’s resolutions a healthy shake! Ladies and gentleman, grab a glass of water and give it up for SETH SIMONDS…
Seth is challenging us to set realistic fitness, food, and fashion goals for 2010. Here are mine:
- Fitness: Increase the intensity in my cardio workouts. I am guilty of just going through the motions and clock watching when doing any form of cardio. Just stepping it up a notch WILL do my body good.
- Food: Increase the variety in my diet. I tend to eat the same things over and over and over again. Hold your pumpkin comments to the end!
- Fashion: Wear “real” clothes more than once a week. I have been living in workout clothes for months. Putting on real clothes could do wonders for my mind, body, and spirit!
Your turn…how are you going to set yourself up for success in 2010? Seth and I dare you to set realistic fitness, food, and fashion goals to kick off the new year! Tell us your goals in the comments section below.
Now I really must go put on an old bridesmaid dress, sprint to my kitchen, and whip up a new verde salad! Ciao!

December 30th 2009He’s great.
I haven’t thought about goals to be honest. I just want to love myself.

December 30th 2009I really haven’t thought much about my goals / resolutions for 2010. This is primarily because even over break I have been very busy with the holidays. That, and the fact that I KNOW resolutions never get kept. However, the goals I firmly believe I will succeed in achieving for myself are:
*Fitness: to actually put physical exercise in my daily life at least twice a week (hey, it’s SMALL). *Food: Eliminate Soda (this will actually be HUGE) *Fashion: see I’m still pretty good with my fashion; however, it will improve IMMENSELY once I lose the weight and can fit back into most of my clothes.

December 30th 2009haha, I wear workout clothes all the time! That’s the nice thing about working from home, right? I do try to “dress up” sometimes even when at home, as it makes me feel better about myself. I like Seth’s idea of setting realistic and achievable goals, and I like your goal of adding more variety to your diet. Did you know that’s supposed to help prevent cravings?? yep! Studies have shown that. I love my peanut butter, chocolate, and pumpkin though, and NO I will NOT give them up! But add more things, of course!

December 30th 2009My New Year’s goal for 2010 is to get this exercise thing down. I have reached my weight goal and have lost inches (9 overall total) but need to firm it up. I do not like to exercise. However, I see the tremendous value. I began in August and have reached my goal as of yesterday 12/29 and I also found that eating right and exercise has substantially reduced my menopause hot flashes and night sweats. I haven’t been a good girl on exercising and now I find the hot flashes and night sweats are back. I know that a lot of people make the resolution to exercise and eat right, but most never follow through. This was started prior to the new year so I think that this is a valuable lesson and goal for me.

December 30th 2009I so need to put on some real clothes more often! You know you’ve only been wearing spandex when you feel constricted when wearing jeans and a sweater. =)
Diane Fit to the Finish says:
December 30th 2009I have some goals but not resolutions per say. My family and I do have a good time on New Year’s Eve talking about everyone’s goals for the upcoming years. It’s funny to hear what the four year old says.

December 30th 2009Ah, realistic goals. So I guess I shouldn’t resolve to win the Boston Marathon? Hmph. Well, I guess I’ll have to settle for these:
Fitness: Hit up the gym at least six days a week.
Food: I’m with you: Expand my horizons!
Fashion: Get out of my workday rut. As in: Wear more of the clothes in my closet.

December 30th 2009uh oh. you just reminded me of that goal I set 2 weeks ago to learn German. I already forgot. Dang it!

January 1st 2010I got up this morning and decided that this year, is the year that I am going to get healthy! This year I will be turning 50 (am I having an Oprah moment?) and I have been overweight my whole life. Lately I have the excuse that I’m just tired of dieting, but I know it’s not only about what I eat, but how I look at life. My goal this year for fitness is to get to the gym, (i used to say at LEAST 3 times a week) but if I can make it everyday, why not? My goal for food is to eat smaller portions, of healthy food (after a lifetime of dieting, I KNOW what’s healthy and what’s not) and to savor every bite slowly. None of this salad and chicken every meal stuff. My fashion goal is to love who I am no matter what my size is and to be proud of how I look. To do my hair, put on makeup and dress smartly every day, even if I’m not working. Thank you for being the website I found this morning. Small steps,…yes, 2010 here I come!
