Eggnog My Whey

I drink about one glass of eggnog a year. One glass is all I really need to get my fix. This year I decided to create my own eggnog so I could control the ingredients and not waste half a container of the store bought stuff. So, I stepped into the Fitness & Spice test kitchen and gave eggnog a healthy shake. Ladies and gentleman I give you…

Eggnog My Whey

IMG_6967

  • 1/3 cup vanilla protein powder
  • 1/4 cup Egg Beaters*
  • 1/4 cup Blue Diamond Unsweetened Almond Milk, NuVal score – 90
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 t vanilla extract (or rum extract)
  • 1/4 t nutmeg
  • 3-5 ice cubes

Blend all ingredients together in your Magic Bullet or blender. Pour into a really cute glass, sprinkle with nutmeg, sip, enjoy!

* From the Egg Beaters Web site: Because they’re pasteurized, Egg Beaters are safe and convenient to use in recipes that require uncooked eggs.

Now I really must go whip up another protein mocktail. Two servings of eggnog in one year? Yes, I’m totally getting carried awhey!

I laugh that Im almost mandated to use the beaters as i am known for always being STARVING WANT MY FOOOOOOD NOW and, well, undercooking :)

That way Im never putting myself at risk :)
The loved ones? I eat first and then cook slow for them. us. for my next meal.

LOVE this! I am so going to make it. Though, I might be extracting my rum from Bacardi. But just one, I promise.

Joanna,

I’m going to be on the news again on Friday (hopefully..) and I was going to make another version of eggnog, very similar to this but without the protein powder. I was actually thinking that the egg beaters may not be healthy/safe without cooking, but thanks for the information that points otherwise! That’s fantastic. Thanks for sharing :)

About how many calories would this be???

I don’t ever drink eggnog and mostly because of how horrible it is for you. This sounds much more reasonable! Don’t know if you like soy milk, but Silk has a version of eggnog out right now. Only 90 calories per serving!

oh this recipe sounds amazing with the almond milk!

I think the title alone made me laugh

Hi Amanda, I like to think of this recipe as a protein shake with extra credit! I focus a lot of my attention on protein so I reach my daily goals. A cup of this good stuff has over 25 grams of protein! The calorie count will depend on the protein powder you use so the range for one serving will be about 140-170 calories.

This is such a great idea. I recently had a homemade egg nog made with coconut milk and almond milk and sweetened with Stevia. Just as good as the original recipie, I thought!

Wow, this sounds delicious. What a huge amount of protein you’ve managed to squeeze into one glass!

That is a really cute glass! Instead of Egg Beaters, I like the eggs that have been pasteurized in the shell. I find EB to have an “off” taste, probably from the additives. The pasteurized shell eggs taste great as they’ve only been heated in warm water. Now, I’m going to find a glass as cute as yours.

That looks great, and it’s so high in protein. Thanks for sharing!

Cute glass. I don’t know why but I’ve been craving eggnog and I don’t remember ever even drinking it before. Weird. I might try this!

My friend will LOVE this recipe! She loves eggnog but is watching her diet, and she’s always looking for ways to use her protein powder!

I really like the thought of this drink, but I still can’t stomach Egg nog.
I try a sip of my husband’s every year, but I still don’t like it.  I really want to like it, I’m just not there
yet.
I like your healthy version of it though.
