Splenda, Ah Splenda, Splenda

I think I’m going to change the words to the song, “Sugar, Sugar” to Splenda, Ah, Splenda, Splenda…I’m sure they wouldn’t mind. Splenda is one of my favorite sugar substitutes. I use it for baking primarily, but recently I shook things up a bit and created:

Vanilla Splenda & Spice IMG_7109

  • 1 Vanilla Bean
  • 1 Cup Splenda

Slice vanilla bean lengthwise and gently scrape out the seeds. Toss Splenda, seeds, and the entire pod together and store in an air tight container for up to 3 months.

Enjoy this vanilla infused Splenda in teas, coffees, on top of oatmeal, or sprinkled on or in your favorite baked goods.

Now I really must go talk to Def Leppard about changing their lyrics to pour some vanilla Splenda in my tea.

As someone with cancer, I’ve been trying to eliminate artificial sweeteners in my diet. I have consulted with a naturopath who recommended stevia and agave nectar as healthy substitutes. I made a pumpkin pie with agave nectar for the holidays and it was quite good! My 10-year-old daughter uses it on pancakes and french toast instead of syrup and can’t tell the difference.

I think we talked about this before but I still use some splenda – my husband uses it by the bagful!

It’s nice to see someone in the blog world admit to their love of splenda– I feel like it’s become kind of taboo to admit that you use artifiical sweeteners :-)

I’ve gotten on a stevia kick, myself.

I love Splenda, too. I wish I could give it up but I’m basically addicted. I always hope they won’t come out with some bad news about the sweetener years down the line. I use it in coffee, tea, whatever. Is there a specific brand of stevia people use that tastes the most like sugar? I’d be interested in trying it, but I heard stevia can leave behind a bad aftertaste.

I don’t generally do Splenda, but I have a lot of friends that bake pies and cakes with it! It’s all about balance to me.

I still love the splenda…I had two giant bags, and had planned to wean myself off of it by the time the bags were gone, but I think I will miss it too much. I like your vanilla idea. I keep a shaker of cinnamon-splenda on the counter and use it in everything!
