I’ve been doing a lot of pom reading lately.
As a matter of fact, I think 2009 was THE year of the pomegranate. I’ve read countless articles boasting that pomegranates are bursting with antioxidants, fiber, potassium, and vitamin C. So in December I busted open my first pomegranate after watching people like Martha and Jen go first.
I assumed it was going to taste a bit bitter, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was actually quite sweet and not as tart as I expected.
When Mr. Wonderful (as I call him) asked if I would like to try POM Wonderful pomegranate juice, I quickly agreed and then hopped on their Web site and learned that POM Wonderful 100% Pomegranate Juice…
- Contains no added sugars, preservatives or colors
- Is a good source of potassium
- Is gluten-free
- Is flash pasteurized to retain both flavor and nutrients
I have to admit I love the taste of this pomegranate juice. But, it contains 160 calories/8 ounces, so I will only enjoy POM Wonderful Juice every POM once-in-a-while.
Now this will come as no surprise to you, but I added about 1/3 cup pomegranate juice in place of some of the water in a vanilla protein shake yesterday and it really was POM Wonderful.
Want to WIN a case of POM Wonderful, a POM apron, and some other goodies from POM? Then do some pom reading of your own and tell us what you might do with POM Wonderful Juice in your future! Be sure to leave your pom reading by 11:59 EST on Thursday, January 21st and check back on Friday to see if you won.
Now I really must go, I don’t want to take this wonderful day for pomegranate!

January 21st 2010Oooooh I freaking low pom the juice and the fruit. I would probably make a cocktail with it …
Donna Bush says:
January 21st 2010I put some POM juice in a glass with ice and fill the rest with club soda. Bubbly and it satisfies my soda craving, but not filled w/ a bunch of crap. Add a twist of lime for a brighter flavor.
Trish @IamSucceeding says:
January 21st 2010I would add to a smoothies…make ice cream(healthy of course) and add to my oatmeal!!
Yum Yum Yum!!
amanda says:

I heart POM Juice! It’s so good and good for you :)
Have a great day!
The Candid RD says:
January 21st 2010I got about 20 POM juices in the mail about 6 months ago, and still have two left. Like you, I really enjoy the flavor but NOT the calories and sugar. I have tried to incorporate it into my meals and smoothies, but it’s hard to go through 20! I even have some teas, which I don’t drink for the same reason (sugar and calories). I’d prefer the natural fruit, and a piece of chocolate :)
Diane says:
January 21st 2010Well, Joanna, I have to admit that if I had a case of POM, I would have a LOT of pomegranate martinis!! They are delicious. Actually, Suzanne’s husband got me adding POM to orange juice to boost the nutrition and flavor of OJ. If you had a case of the stuff, you could host a Valentine’s Day cocktail party with red cocktails and healthy munchies.
Jody - Fit at 52 says:
January 21st 2010Have not tried this yet but have read all the great things about pomegranates though! Like you, not a fan of the calories & such so I would probably add in a little to smoothies, oatmeal, non fat Greek yogurt & things like that so I get the flavor & not all the added calories.
Love your play on words!
Naomi(onefitfoodie) says:
January 21st 2010ohh so fun!! I love pomegranites and totally agree that 2009 was the year of them! everything including martinis had the addition of pomegranite! (which is delicious by the way) speaking of which if I won, I woud make some fabulous spritzer drinks including a PomTini!! This was also be a great base in a smoothie or green monster MMMMM
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says:
January 21st 2010I also love POM. The calories and sugar? Not so much. I like to mix a glass of sparking water with a few pours of POM. It’s like a fizzy cocktail (minus alcohol calories) and it makes one bottle (which isn’t cheap, by the way) last for a while.
ashley says:
January 21st 2010I’d put some POM in my oatmeal instead of water or milk!
Marisa (Loser For Life) says:
January 21st 2010I’ve tried POM before and really liked it. Like others have said, the calories are a bit high, but I enjoyed using it as a “spritzer” and around the holidays we had pomegranate bellinis!
Jennifer (Savor) says:
January 21st 2010I love using POM in my viniagrettes!
andi says:
January 21st 2010When my morning whey shake which I blend with frozen fruit is too thick, I add water, and just a dash of Pomegranate Juice. I tend to cramp in my legs, denoting a need for calcium, so when I add that to the shake it might get a little thick. The taste is so satisfying, I get the energy to carry on all morning. I am moving house, so there is lots of things to sort through, separating into donation boxes, throw aways, give to a particular child or husband to decide what to do with. In other words, the brain needs to be sharp to get things accomplished. I am pleased to say the job is progressing nicely. Nutrition is one of the keys.

January 21st 2010I would add some Pom to my Amazing Grass. the two combined are phenomenal!!!

January 21st 2010I love Pom.. I use it in cocktails, smoothies but the hardest is keeping it in my house!!! My daughter loves it also and drinks it sometimes before I do. I also love the Pom blends with blueberry :) My favorite is blending in smoothies after a great long run!
Claire says:
January 21st 2010A POM cocktail is just the most beautiful thing poured straight into a classic martini glass!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says:
January 21st 2010I combine pom, orange juice, and Amazing grass powder for a quick morning shot of energy. Using pom and orange juice allows me to go through a bottle much slower!
Evan Thomas says:
January 21st 2010I would whip up some homemade pomegranate and chocolate vitatops in my kitchen!
Suzanne says:
January 21st 2010Seriously, Pomegranate martinis = awesome. I suppose I could try it in a smoothie however.
Sandy Schmid says:
January 21st 2010My daughter brought this home one time and I really thought it was great. I love pomegranates but, of course, the seeds! Great drink for a treat but the calories!!!!

January 21st 2010Love this product. And OOOHHH the fun things you can do and make with it!! Unfortunately, my friend, it scores a mere 27 on the NuVal scale. So not quite as nutritious as one might think.
Debra P says:
January 21st 2010I have cut out soda (yay!) and am very much enjoying POM juice. I add it to iced tea and it is so delicious. I also add it to lemonade to make a delicious pomegranate-lemonade. My favorite is to combine pomegranate-lemondae with iced tea – It’s a super antioxidant rich tart Arnold Palmer.
I also use pomegranate juice in my marinades with soy sauce orange and ginger. It’s so good!
I also add it to plain yogurt when I want something healthy with a touch of tart! Really good – and then add some fruit if you like.
Debra P says:
January 21st 2010In future I’d like to add it to balsamic vinegar and put it on strawberries or ice cream or salads!
Erika says:
January 21st 2010I think it’d be cool to use the POM juice in making homemade ice cream! I’ve got my eye on a Cuisinart ice cream maker.. and pom/cherry/vanilla sounds like a pretty good combo to me!

January 21st 2010I’ve never tried POM but I love the taste of pomegranate! I think I’d use it in breakfast smoothies and I’d add it to greek yogurt for a yummy snack and dessert!
Michelle says:
January 21st 2010I would be so so grateful to win a case of POM Wonderful! There are so many things I would do. First I would like to replace the juice my son drinks with this. It is so much healthier than what he drinks now and I think he would love it, and I would feel so good being able to give him something as wonderful as this. I’d also like to make a salad vinaigrette with it and maybe some type of sauce to go with baked chicken. Of course, I’d use it in my morning smoothie and I would definitely drink this instead of soda. Thank you so much for the chance! I’m crossing my fingers!
Brett says:
January 21st 2010Mmmmm, POM…one of my favorite indulgences, just after chocolate! I like drinking it straight and putting a little in smoothies, but I also like using it as a marinade for chicken and turkey breasts. All that sweet and tart flavor goes great with white meat, just like it does with cranberries.
Ali says:
January 21st 2010hmm if I had some POM juice I would most likely drink it….you know, cause it’s juice.=]
maybe I’d try a POM julius.

January 21st 2010POM in the old fashioned ice cube trays. Dunk em in a big glass of water. Chug, chug, chug.
