Decisions, Decisions

To workout

IMG_7439

or not to workout,

IMG_7437

that is the question.

Yesterday I woke up feeling achy. Like the start of a cold kind of achy. But after a hot cup of tea and a hot shower I started to feel better, not perfect mind you, but better. After spending way too much time debating whether or not I should go to the gym or skip it all together, I ended up going.

I always tell people to stay home from the gym if they’re feeling sick. For goodness sakes, we have the rest of our lives to workout and skipping a day is not the end of the world, right?

One day I will take my own advice.

Do you workout when you’re just starting to feel under the weather? Do you flip a coin? Do you risk it and go anyway? Or do you take a day of rest? I’d love to hear from you!

Now I really must go flip another coin…to nap or not to nap, that is the next question!

Great question! I go with what my body is saying over my mind. I can easily talk myself out of a workout but I have to make it a REAL reason.
I go by the rule: throat and head – go if I can chest or below – stay home

I try to listen to my body, and I’m getting better at it. But I still push too hard sometimes…

I take a break as I just need to remind myself Im in this for the long haul…the decades…and one day off even one WEEK off here or there doesnt seem too important.

when Ive worked out when sick—back in my innocent youth :) —-I just remained sick longer!

I usually always take off if I am feeling yucky!

I’ve been picking choice B lately and not even because I am sick! LOL!

Seriously, I think if you’re not feeling great, you should skip and stay home. Better to not spread the wealth :)

I am working three 12 hour night shifts, so the choice is do I want to workout after getting off shift or before going on shift…… I have to remind myself to take a day off!

I’m a gluten for punishment. Last year, I went to they gym when I knew that I had the flu! Yeah, I know – dumb. In ‘08, I had 2 major surgeries that put me out of commision for way to long. The way I see it now, if I’m alive, I’m going to the gym! No excuses – nothing is going to hold me back. It’s not the smartest mentality to have and I certainly don’t advocate it. I’ll be the first to tell someone else to rest. But it’s that philosophy of “Do as I say and not as I do.” ha ha. I hope that you’re feeling better today.

It actualy depeneds on how a feel. A cold usually does not stop me. And most of the time, it makes me feel better. If it is body aches & fever.. home in bed! Lucky for me, I rarely get sick.

Hope you feel better!

Aw, man! I’m sorry to hear you aren’t feeling good! Something is going around the blogosphere and I don’t like it! Sometimes I workout when I’m not feeling well and sometimes I don’t. During this round of not feeling good, I’ve taken a few days off. I’m starting to feel slightly better today, so I’m gonna try an easy run and some light strength training. I learned this week that if you have a fever its best not to workout.

Unless I feel just horrible, like it’s in my chest and can’t breathe, I workout. It usually makes me feel so much better.

i often push thru and go and regret it. i really have to remind myself to take it easy. sometimes at the end of a cold or whatever a good workout really pushes the bug out of you and gets you back on track, tho!!

I usually push myself to go. But an hour later, I’m definitely thanking myself for that decision

Well here’s the issue.. I got 8 stitches in my finger last night and i’m determined to workout today.. we’ll see how that goes!! lol

Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says:

Aw, feel better! Whether I skip a workout depends on how sick I’m feeling. I can’t work out with a headache or migraine. But if I just have a cold, I’ll go. I’ve heard that if you’re sick below the neck–congestion in your lungs or a stomach ache–you should sit it out.

amanda says:

I work out anyway…I just might not go as hard

Amanda Thebe says:

nap!

I am sorry you do not feel well. I go by how much I coughed in the night. If my abs are sore from coughing, I take the day off. If I feel better, I may walk instead of run. The hardest thing for me when I have a cold is to not eat a ton because it makes me feel better to eat!

jacquie says:

I don’t appreciate someone sneezing & coughing around me anywhere & certainly not at a gym…so I would tend to stay home & workout there till the contagious period is over…

But the coin says WORK OUT TOMORROW??!!

April Shunn says:

I love that coin! There are so many times when it’s 8 PM and I know I have to get out and do my training run, but it’s COLD outside. However, for the most part, I feel great once I’m out there. But some days… you just need fate to decide for you.

Melinda says:

I’ve always heard that if the ache and pain above the chest, go ahead and exercise at 50%. If you feel it in the chest, take a day off. I, like you, tend to exercise when I’m feeling bad because it usually makes me feel better. The opposite happened yesterday. When I started to run, I felt ok; then I ended up feeling awful.
