Yesterday we spent some time focusing on What Not To Wear to the gym…time well spent, if you ask me. Let’s move on to What to Wear to the Gym.
I think we all agree with the 3 C’s of Gym Attire: Comfort (within reason people!), Coverage, and Cleanliness are ckey, I mean, key.
So let’s talk about our favorite workout clothes. I’ll go first.
- I do not workout without my dri-fit Nike black hat. I have a collection of them, all the same style and color. I am a head-sweater, perhaps it’s because I have more hair than necessary or I have some sort of overactive sweat glands or something funky like that, but that’s a subject for another article.
- One of my favorite sweatshirts was a Christmas gift from my friend Sheila. It’s a Nike pink, black, and white zip up, hoodie with a cute little pocket to hold my iPod. It’s the perfect weight. And a pretty good gift. I’m sure Sheila agrees since she bought herself one, too.
- I also have a handful of dri-fit tank tops from Reebok and Athleta that I’m loving right now. They have a built in pocket for an iPod, too, which is great so I’m not spending my entire workout chasing my iPod when I should be focusing on chasing wardrobe violators my workout.
Since I am in workout clothes 6, OK, 7 days a week, I’m looking to go on a new workout wardrobe shopping spree (right Julie, right Heather?) so I’d love to hear about some of your favorite workout clothes. Give me the scoop, brands, style, you name it!
Now I really must go make like a Puma, put on my Under Armour, and workout like a Champion!

February 25th 2010I love Lucy! =) I also love moving comfort, nike, and asics.

February 25th 2010I have worn a visor when I workout for 6 + years now – Love them and have them in all different colors. I also have a ton of black capris by Nike and Under Armor that I live in. I wear the same thing, just in different colors!
Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg says:
February 25th 2010I LOVE my Nike tempo shorts!!! Gotta have ‘em for runs!
Jodi (jodiojo) says:
February 25th 2010I am an obsessive matchy matchy girl. So no matter what I wear to the gym, the top and bottom match. I know…therapy…I’m calling now for an appointment. But in the mean time, I’m going to go find my black and periwinkle addidas sweat suit (not a good word to describe, sounds 80′s-ish but it’s not) I love so much…:o)

February 25th 2010I am so lame when it comes to workout clothes. I guess, well, I just don’t care what I wear! I end up buying t-shirts and tank tops from Old Navy and just wearing those with a sports bra. I also wear spandex shorts or Old Navy shorts, or just cheap cotton shorts I buy at Target! I also always carry around a towel to wipe my face (not as cool as YOUR towel though! Not as sanitary I’m sure….). As for shoes, I’m all about New Balance. Socks, always short and small, never coming above my ankles. Unlike you, I don’t sweat a whole lot, so I tend to stay in my workout clothes a couple hours afterwards. I’m too lazy to take them off right away. SO GROSS I know. But I’m at home, who cares?! :)
Jody - Fit at 52 says:
February 25th 2010I do wear the dri-fit technology!!! Well, for the few things that I have that are not 12++ years old! :-) I am a major sweater but I don’t wear hats. I clip up my hair or wear a headband when it is too short to clip up.
I wear Under Armour biker type short tights & either a dri-fit top ( I have a Moving Comfort one) or my old leo.. I no.. bad! I wish I could afford all the new great stuff but between keeping my shoes replaced & then the bottom part too so that they do not become so tin that you can see my butt… well, just not alot left for cool clothes.

February 25th 2010Ooooookay! {cracking knuckles, getting ready to type} I’m a big ole ‘ho for some Brazilian supplex fitness attire. Oh yes I am. But, “Brazilian” often means “bare it all” I’ve found (they don’t call it a Brazilian wax for nothing, folks), where yoga pants take a Down Dog dive and you can forget plyos. I finally found the ones that stay put, and I swear they took a lesson from the Cross Your Heart bra b/c they do indeed “lift and separate” (less so on the separate ;) where needed. Brand is Brasil Sul, specific pant is Wide Waistband Pant: http://www.vumawear.com/items08.asp?Brand=1&Cat=4 I am in love with http://www.fitcouture.com, all supplex fitness attire. They have a new pant called the Everyday Pant I may try b/c so far all purchases from them have been great, and something cheaper than the Brasil Sul would be great. The jackets are ADORABLE, but not what I’d call workout-functional. They are just for looking cute to and fro, very flattering. (PS It seems like every other weekend they have a 15% off storewide sale, and I’m not exaggerating on the frequency, so sign up for mailings and wait). I also love Lululemon stuff, esp the tops. Who doesn’t? Little iPod pockets (yet to use, but I like knowing they are there), long torso length (no Britney Spears moments during overhead presses!), great style, and they come with boobs! (Inserts, that is) They are so spendy, though, I hit up ebay for those. Otherwise, if I’m going to spend money, it’s going to be on the daily basics like pants, and I’ll save on tops. Target hooks me up regularly (clearance rack tanks!), and I’m a fan of the C9 by Champion bras, and Champion bras in general. They are the originators of the boulders-that-regularly-bounce holders, after all. I gave up on cotton-spandex long ago. P-friggin’-U. While I’m here… (sorry Joanna) Got some stank on your exercise togs? My recommendation: Add Bac-Out by Biokleen to the wash, get the washer started and stop it after a little bit of agitation to let things soak for a while, then finish the load as usual, air-drying as many things as you can, such as supplex stuff.

February 25th 2010Marika, Athleta, Zobha, and the Target brands are good. I hear you with needing workout clothes, I live in mine so I am always needing to buy new ones. I bought a f few weeks ago and posted on my blog.

February 25th 2010my vote is lululemon, nike and lucy!
Heather (Wheres the Beach) says:
February 25th 2010I like Nike and Champion. I love my Nike dri-fit hat too!!!
Lily @ Lily's Health Pad says:
February 25th 2010Target c9 brand! Cheap and cute! Plus the danskin bra from walmart. Best bra I’ve ever owned!
Tracey @ I'm Not Superhuman says:
February 25th 2010I’m not too brand loyal when it comes to workout clothes, though I need to wear Asics running shoes. As for clothing, I prefer pants over shorts when I’m at the gym. I hate feeling like someone can see down my pants when I’m doing crunches or stretches.
Melinda says:
February 25th 2010I love my Nike and Brooks running pants (not tights!). Lulu tops/bottoms are wonderful for pilates and yoga (they even have built in bras). Also, Nike running jackets are the best. And my favorite workout apparel that I don’t usually wear to work out is I/O Bio wool tops and bottoms. I think the styles are cooler than Icebreaker, even though the latter has a bigger brand name. I am always cold, and the wool gear is awesome for keeping me warm.
Sheila says:
February 25th 2010I have small feet and find it very difficult to buy socks that fit. My solution is the kids aisle! Underarmour are my favorite and of course they come in pink!
Lance says:
February 25th 2010I wear shorts and a t-shirt…
Hmmm…
Am I weird??? I kind of like that well-worn t-shirt that fits just right….
…and *most* of my stuff isn’t pink!!!
angela says:
February 25th 2010LOVE anything Lululemon….especially their groove workout pants (they actually make your butt look better!) and little Speed running shorts….sports bras are amazing too! I also love(d) BEBE SPORT sports bras but now they are no more :-( I’ve always been a Nike girl but I also frequent Target’s fitness section and find cute things every now and then. I stock up on their $7 tank tops for the gym too in all sorts of colors. And I’m “that girl” at the gym that sports the sports bra…not because I want people lookin’ but because 1) I want to see my muscles I’m workin’ and 2) it keeps me accountable! Ok so not lately (too cold)…but most of the time I’m in my Lululemon bottoms, a sports bra, a fitlosophy ‘live life fit’ tank top (optional), and of course my Mio heart rate monitor watch! I’m voting for another “what not to wear: gym edition” with input from your readers…I have a ton I could contribute! Seriously – there should be a reality show on the gym: it’s quite entertaining!

February 25th 2010Glad to know i’m not the only one who lives in workout clothes! LOL. I usually find good deals at discount stores like Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and Ross!
Diane Fit to the Finish says:
February 25th 2010Like April, I usually get mine at TJMaxx. Since I’m mainly a runner/walker I like to buy a nice pair of shorts or two in the summer and some warm running pants for the winter! Having the right clothes makes working out more enjoyable.

February 25th 2010I have a motley collection of workout gear, mostly gotten on sale at different stores like Target, Dunhams, Scheels, and even Walmart! What I love the most are my Champion sports bras :-).
AND Thank You so much for the positivity bracelet! I just got it in the mail today, and I put it on right away! It is definitely going to be my new accessory, and I really do need it to remind me to finish my last semester of college as an undergrad strong and sane!
FatFighterTV says:
February 25th 2010I love all the dri-fit clothes, but sometimes, I just wear a plain old cotton t-shirt or tank top. Depends on my mood.
Donna Bush says:
February 26th 2010My black cap sleeve Under Armor shirt is an absolute must. I don’t know how it does it, but it gives the illusion that my stomach is about 8 sizes too smaller. Wish they’d make regular clothes like that. Oh, it’s good for soaking up my excessive amounts of sweat and is very light and comfy, too.
Courtney says:
February 26th 2010I’m a big fan of the C9 stretch capris and pants…after that, it’s one of the million tees that I’ve collected over the years. I can’t help it though, the shoes have to match the shirt. My mother taught me well over the years, and it goes for my workout gear as well!
cassie @ www.losinginthecity.blogspot.com says:
February 27th 2010I so need new workout clothes.. great blog, just discovered it.. I get a lot of my workout clothes from Target and i get my sports bras from Title Nine (www.titlenine.com). I need very supportive sports bras.

December 29th 2010Gym shorts shorts look good only if you are wearing it in gym or sports event or walking to and fro from the gym to your abode. You don’t want to scream out to people the truth that you are trying to be health conscious and this gym shorts is a strict no-no fro any sort of social gathering
