From the home office of Fitness & Spice, here are 10 ways to go lean and green for St. Patrick’s Day….
1. Get fresh. Buy local produce.
2. Remember to skip the paper or plastic and bring your canvas bags to the grocery store.
3. Journal in a fitbook, printed on recycled paper.
4. Recycle old iPods. (I have a drawer full. Don’t judge.)
5. Shop for environmentally-friendly gym clothes! How cute is this organic cross-back tank from Gaiam?
6. Bring your own mug to Starbucks. Not only will you save paper, you’ll save some coin, too. Starbucks will knock off $.10 every time you bring your own cup, you do-gooder, you!
7. Make a trip to Goodwill to hand over some clothes that no longer fit, skinny.
8. Toss your fitness and cooking magazines into the recycle bin.
9. Snack on Sabra Hummus which, according to the label, now comes in Earth Friendlier Packaging.
10. Drink a lot of water from your favorite reusable water bottle like my personal favorite, a KOR ONE Water Vessel.
Speaking of KOR ONE, this could be your lucky day!
Want to WIN a green KOR ONE Water Vessel? Then tell us one GREEN THING you are going to do this St. Patrick’s Day!
The contest will close on Thursday, March 18th and the winner will be announced on Friday.
Now I really must go try Dublin my water intake and subtractin’ my carbon footprint.

March 17th 2010I own a fitness center in Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. Today I am kicking off a new campaign for recycling. I have put recycle bins by the entrance and any member that brings in recyclables gets a discount that month. They can do it every month and save all year long! Plus, I have a lady coming in to teach us all how to make purses out of used, plastic grocery bags, so each member will have a new ‘GREEN’ bag to carry their workout clothes in!!
Shannon says:
March 17th 2010I own a few iPods too, but I can’t get rid of them just yet…BUT, I am going to plant my own garden minus all of the yucky pesticides. Veggies are so expensive these days. I figure I will probably save some “green” while “going green”! Kinda like a 2 for 1 deal. Oh, and I’m wearing a green shirt made with organic cotton even though it was totally not planned. Happy St. Patty’s Day.

March 17th 2010I went green today by toting a gallon of water to work work (that I bought) and pouring into a regular cup instead of using individual small 16-ounce water bottles. I have to bring my water ’cause I once saw brown water come out the work sink. ewww.

March 17th 2010Well, the first thing is wear my cute “new” (from goodwill) green sweater, size L, a year ago I was 2XL. Then, I will carry my water to work in my own bottles, and my coffee in my travel mug that I always use. And finally, I picked up produce that the grocery store was planning to throw away, saved it from the landfill, and fed my chickens. I love being green, even when it isn’t St. Patrick’s Day.

March 18th 2010To be green yesterday, I decided my son and I would not drive to an activity, but walk instead. We decided to do a small hike, so we walked from our house to this lovely area full of wildlife and a beautiful dam. We saw a gorgeous deer and listened to the peaceful sound of the water rushing near us. It was a perfect day, and it was nice to know that we did a small bit in making our footprint on the earth just a wee bit smaller yesterday.
Jennifer says:
March 18th 2010I love my KOR water vessel and I use it everday. Confession, I have an addiction to Diet Pepsi and I have one very reliable refillable cup.
Vanessa says:
March 18th 2010I used my camelbac water bottle everyday at the gym and I acutally bought a refillable cup for my iced tea the other day so while I’m a work I don’t have to get a new cup from the cafateria. Also last night I parked far away fromo my boyfriends house, and he offered to drive back to my car late at night but I said lets go green and walk. I have cleaned out my closet 3 times since I started loosing weight a year ago and I cleaned it out for the 3rd time last week. I use all the articles of clothing that can be used to clean cars/ around the house, I cut them up and put them in a big blue IKEA bag marked “cloths to clean with”. There are so many others but these are the things I can think about right now. :)
