Put a Spring in Your Shake

IMG_7892Q. How do you make a blueberry shake?

A. Take it to a scary movie.

Hold your applause until the end.

A friend of mine recently suggested that I shake up the flavor of my protein shakes by substituting sparkling water in place of water. The result? A sparkling success!

Here’s the scoop…

  • 1/3 cup Vanilla Protein Powder
  • 1/3 cup Berries
  • 1 cup Sparkling Water (plain or flavored)
  • Ice

Blend. Enjoy!

Adding sparkling water put a refreshing twist on my protein shake without adding any calories. I can’t wait to experiment with other colorful combos.

Now I really must go to the gym and add some dumbbell flyes with that shake.

Cute…what protein do you use for your shakes? I have tried a couple…and just have not liked their taste at all.

That sounds cool. So can you still taste the fizz after blending it up?

Tracey, You can totally taste a little fizz after blending. Oh, and I should warn you…blending sparkling water is like shaking up a pop can and then opening it up…let’s just say, it expands!

Back when I still drank soda… (hahah! that one’s for you Jodi!) I used to use Fresca in my fruity shakes, and definitely made some blended root beer “floats” – diet A&W, ice, guar gum, vanilla protein powder. SO. Good.
