If I was a mom I would not be the kind of mom that would get upset if given a kitchen appliance for Mother’s Day. In fact, I am a bit obsessed with kitchen gadgets. I love to buy them up, give them as gifts, and receive them as gifts (hint, hint).
But since I’m not a mom I decided to be my own Sugar Daddy and treat myself to my ultimate Mother’s Day gift anyway: A Vitamix.
I’ve been reading about these blenders for years and finally decided to take the plunge. If you’re not familiar with the Vitamix, let’s just say they are the Cadillac of blenders. And, yes, that includes both the Cadillac quality and the price tag. But just think of all of the money I’ll save making my own peanut butter, frappaccinos, lemonade, soup, salad dressing, ice cream, sorbet, breads, protein shakes, salsas, and did I mention PEANUT BUTTER?!
Not only that, I’m able to control what goes into everything I make so I feel healthier just by having this sucker in the house. All of that and everything seems easier to make in a Vitamix because it is a power house.
I can justify anything, can’t I?
My one regret about the Vitamix? That I didn’t buy it sooner.
Do you have a favorite kitchen gadget? Tell us about it!
Now I really must go figure out what I’m going to buy myself for Father’s Day!

May 20th 2010Congrats on your Vitamix! I got mine (a VitaPrep 3) about a year ago and don’t know how I ever did without it. It makes the creamiest soups and hummus, and the most AWESOME NUT BUTTERS.
About making nut butter, there is a knack to it: You need to use at least 400g of nuts. Have the blender loaded and the tamper in place. Then start on variable 1, quickly switch to variable 10 and then flip on high (within like 3 seconds). Tamp like crazy and don’t fear the noise. Once the nut butter flows in the machine, it’s done. Blending too long is not good because the nut butter just heats up and gets weird (some people freeze the nuts beforehand — I’ve never tried this). Anyway, if you don’t do it this way you get cavitation and it will just be an exercise in frustration. Done this way, my VitaPrep doesn’t even break a sweat! Good luck and enjoy!

May 20th 2010I love kitchen gadgets, too!!! I would love to get a Vitamix, but sadly, it’s not in the budget. My dopey kids want to go to college. Hmph. Hopefully, they’ll get good jobs after and buy me one of these for Mother’s Day! LOL!
My favorite kitchen gadget is my food processor. I use it for so many things!

May 20th 2010I want one! It’s like a larger version of the magic bullet (aka my favorite kitchen gadget). I’ll have to take the plunge one of these days, when I have kids maybe? Sounds like a great product!!

May 20th 2010I. Am. SO. Jealous. So so jealous.
The other day I had to use not one but TWO blenders just to make a simple smoothie. My first attempt, it wouldn’t break down blueberries. BLUEBERRIES for goodness sake!! So I transferred to blender #2, and after about 5 struggling minutes, came away with a [mediocre] smoothie. I would trade a kidney for a Vitamix.
I’ll quite crying though… favorite? I guessss my coffee maker. It’s an individual 16 oz brewer, but it uses regular grounds instead of those $$ little pods!

May 20th 2010VitaMix is da bomb! My 20 year old one finally bit the dust a couple years ago and hubby, seeing I was grieving, bought me a new one for my birthday. Couldn’t live without, just couldn’t! Just finished a smoothie with yogurt, protein powder, fish oil (lemon flavor), cashews, chia, blueberries and strawberries and cinnamon. If we weren’t out of spinach, that would’ve been in there too.
Cynthia says:
May 20th 2010Oh, one of the cool things… VitaMix took my old burnt out base in trade and gave me $70 for it, though of course, I had to pay the cost of shipping it to them. Still, better than nothing! And I was able to keep the old stainless containers which I’ll eventually get around to selling on eBay. Great company, super customer service! They also would’ve repaired the motor base for me after 20 years if I’d wanted to pay for that. What other kitchen appliance company does that, I ask you?!
Alyson @ Nourished Fitness says:
May 20th 2010So jealous! I’ve been drooling over Vitamix or Blendtec.. but I’ve been able to do everything I want with what I have, so I haven’t been able to convince myself to get it yet. Glad you’re another one that says it’s worth every penny!
