You might have heard the big news that YMCA would prefer to be called “The Y” from now on.
Y, you ask?
- Maybe they think they’re cool enough to join the ranks of Cher and Madonna and just go by their first name
- Maybe they’re sick of going to every single wedding since that song became a hit in the late 70′s
- Maybe they’re tired of dancing the YMCA at their annual Christmas party and just want to speed it up because they secretly prefer the Macarena
- Maybe they have something against the Village People (I just hope they didn’t quit their day jobs)
- Maybe they want Jay-Z or Rod Stewart’s song “Forever Young” to be their new theme song
- Y not?!
I wonder if the Y will be a trendsetter with their new branding? Maybe PETA will become “P”, IBM will become “I”, TCBY will become “T”, and YMCA will stick with “Y”…now that would be a PITY.
Now I really must hit the gym! Y? So I can find me a Macho Man in the Navy!

July 16th 2010Okay, I love reading your posts every day. You’re clever. Truly clever. Love your titles, your view, the way you play with words. Love. It.
And my amaza-gym with the wet washcloth girls and kids fitness classes and zumba? Is indeed a Y.

July 16th 2010I DID see that in the news this week. My Y is beeee-yooooo-ti-ful! They have TRX, Pilates reformers, and an elevated track that I can run on while I watch my daughter’s gymnastics class. I take my kids swimming there all winter long in their gorgeous pool that has a waterslide. The one drawback? it is a bit pricey for a family membership.

July 16th 2010Sounds like somebody’s trying to be all modern and cool. I’ll still think of them as the YMCA. And also, your puns are hilarious.

July 16th 2010It’s always been the “Y” to me. But you’re right – it might ruin the song!!!

July 16th 2010Ahhhh, the Y. I love going to my parents’ Y when we’re home visiting them– it’s so old school!
Heather (Where's the Beach) says:
July 16th 2010We always just called it The Y anyway. Maybe they finally decided to take the hint? I haven’t been to a Y in eons. They either seem to be crappy or really nice. No in between.

July 18th 2010I guess it makes since since everyone calls it the “Y” anyways. However did the change what the “Y” stand for and drop all the other words?
