Bravo, Jackie!

You know Jackie Warner, celebrity personal trainer and star of Bravo’s TV show Thintervention? Well, she contacted me this week to thank me (again!) for the fabulous but really…

interview I had with her earlier this month.

I told her it was my pleasure and went on to explain how much I admired her no-nonsense approach to personal training and her…

She then leaned in close and whispered the secret to her 6-pack is to…

and to always…

No she didn’t.

But the good people at Bravo did tell me that 4 lucky Fitness & Spice readers could WIN one of the items pictured above from the Bravo TV Store!

Since the word “Bravo” means well done and worthy of praise, to enter the contest tell us one thing you’ve done this month worthy of a round of applause.

We’ll announce the four winners of the drawing on Monday, October 25th just in time for the season finale of Jackie’s show Thintervention.

Now I really must go set my DVR and tell Jackie’s people to call my people for an exclusive interview after the finale, but I don’t want to…

hmmmm, this is a hard one. What if i say that I found inspiration from such wonderful bloggers (like yourself) and learned to LIVE each day to the FULLEST! Is that too corny? hehe.

I competed in my first physique competition this month!!! I trained for 4 months and worked the stage :-p Never been on that regimented of a diet or training program,  I have learned the importance of a clean sound diet!! It’s amazing what your day to day seemingly “small” decisions will impact how I look & feel within 24 hours!! Now I’m exploring the world of clean eating :-D

Oh I just love Jackie!! …and her DVD’s rock too. yes, a shameless plug for her but, hey! when you gotta get your sweat on at home her workouts do the trick.

SO, applause worthy THIS month? With racing season (running/tri’s) coming to a close this month, I felt kind of lost with out anything on the books so I am just being chill for a bit with the fitness and doing some soul seaching on which mtn I want to “climb” next. So I am having fun with my fitness right now, doing the things I love to do (run/bike/weight train) and getting out to enjoy this beatiful fall weather. I applaud myself for enjoying the moment :)

I think I finally got diagnosed with the disease that’s been wreaking havoc on my health for years! If so, then I might be able to treat and get well. I’d give that a round of applause or two.

I’ve kept up with my half marathon running, and can now run 10 miles pretty comfortably!

Worthy of applause? For me, I achieved my goal (6 weeks early) or running my first 5K. I’ve done 5K’s before, but I’d always just walked/jogged them. This time, I stuck to it and ran the whole thing!!! My next goal is to beat my time by almost 4 min’s. As a mom/foster mom, finding the time to train and spend time on myself makes me feel worthy of applause from myself daily. Just pushing myself daily and doing my best at my workouts is important to me.

I started my own blog design business and have actually gotten customers! Hubby was so proud of me for starting something and making it happen. I feel like this is the most accomplished thing I’ve done since the car accident (besides my daughter)! I set out to do something and I did it and I’m good at it!

Very cool. I really was never a bit JW fan until more recently. I mean, I watched the gym show, but I really kind of dig Thintervention and I’ve heard awesome things about her book. Anyway, I am applauding myself over my running lately. I have increased my mileage and am enjoying running so much more. Last week I hit 24 miles total for the week – a huge increase for me.

My husband and I provide foster care for four Adults with Special Needs. These special women live with us full-time. This month, with their help, we’ve put together a goal and reward for each of them when they work-out five times/week for 30 minutes per time. We’ve encouraged them to take ownership of their health AND we’ve provided an example by modeling our own exercise program and healthy eating–including portion control and making good choicces.
So far each of the women in our care have exceded their goals and they are excited about what they are accomplishing! I feel good knowing that when we lead by example and encourage their efforts– we are make a difference in their lives too.

What have I done that’s worthy of praise…which is a bit bold for me to say to anyone, but what I think that surprises me (and my husband for that matter) is that I’ve managed to get up at 5 a.m. most days of the week (6 or 7 days a week) and take a beating from Jillian Michaels’ DVDs or my treadmill. In Wisconsin now it’s cold and dark at 5 a.m., which makes it all that harder to get up that early in the morning, let alone my sleeping husband. But, gaining self confidence and strength and generally feeling good, is was motivates me…well, and maybe the hope of fitting into size 6 jeans is a bit of motivation too.

I have been watching Thintervention and just received Jackie’s book in the mail yesterday! I also ordered a Fitbook so I’m hoping with these new tools and inspiration I can begin my journey towards a healthy and fit life style, even though I will soon be turning 50! Or maybe especially since I will soon be turning 50. Never too late right???

I love Jackie! I chased the burn last night with her new DVD which was pretty praise worthy. That workout is tough! Last week, I gave myself some applause for listening to my body and not working out.

I’ve been exercising throughout my pregnancy and am now at 35 weeks, so I think it’s worthy of applause that I’ve kept at it and have kept the weight in check. Hopefully, I can get back in shape faster afterwards as well.

At 46 years of age and a lifelong exercise enhusiast, I find I have to chase the burn intelligently, yet effecctively.  Always mixing it up, keeping this somewhat aging body in metabolic confusion.  This week I joined my eleven year old for a workout at his sports training facility, Velocity.  What fun, proving I could keep up with the younger set, even out performing them at times.  I was happy to share with them what a lifelong commitment to fitness can do for their health, happiness, and well being.

I ran a half marathon on October 3rd and while I did quite well (match my personal best time), I have been dealing with a nagging calf strain ever since. I am supposed to run a full marathon (my 9th) at the end of the month. I have made a “bravo” (read “smart”) decision and decided not to run this particular race. Instead, I will rest, recover and repair. I have made the smart choice, in my opinion, to let my body heal. There will be plenty of other races to tackle. This decision does not come easy, especially for us endurance athletes. However, I feel that if more of us would listen to our bodies, instead of beating them into submission, we would come out stronger. I know I will!

Toni Lynne says:

I’ve started a running group to encourage others to live a healthy active lifestyle. So far there is just 3 of us… but I know it’s going to grow. I found that people are more bound to get up and out there when they have people to run with… it is a great motivator to get up and get going!!!

Janet says:

Thankks for the fantastic giveaway! My bravo is that I did my 3rd sprint tri this month and finshed 18 minutes faster than my goal.

Meagan says:

I’ve decided to run a marathon! Now I must condition for it and that is something I am looking forward to!

Emily Hockett says:

When I think of the word (and the network) Bravo, not only do the words “well done” come to mind but alse “brave” and “courageous”. In the spirit of those words, my Bravo! would be trading in my group classes at the gym for the very large, male dominated weight room! I used to be very intimated by that room but my classes just werent getting me the results I needed. I know have a great circuit routine and I’m getting the results I want!

Heather says:

After starting to veer off a little bit I have gotten back on track and made a decision to start training for a triathalon. I have a long way to go but I’m super excited to see what I can really do.

In an uncharacteristic move, I LISTENED to my pain, took a break from running, dealt with my IT Band issues (physical therapy). Now I’m pain-free, back to training, and looking forward to a half marathon.

Nicole says:

I fractured my pelvis in a mountain bike race in September. Rather than totally giving up all exercise, I started swimming (I hate the water) and yoga therapy. I am now able to ride a recumbant bike and walk short distances. I will keep plugging away until I can fully return to cycling and running.

After working 7 days a week for 4 years, I finally stopped working Sundays (where I’d be clocking in at 4:30am!) in an effort to find myself, as I’ve lost who I think I am… For so long I’ve cared what other people think and now, I’m going to focus on me.

BARBARA says:

October 24th 2010

I’ve persevered through extremely tough times, and kept up my daily morning cardio routine even when I had days I didn’t want to get out out bed. I have studied my butt off and have had zero support from family. I did what was best for my health and am really proud that I made the “step” even when I was really scared and uncertain of the outcome!
