Today is National Health Appreciation Day (HAD).
No it’s not.
I just made that up. But why shouldn’t it be?
Over the last 2 weeks I have caught myself saying,
“At least I have my health”
…at least four times. And I meant it every time.
I have friends, friends-of-friends, family, and neighbors who are struggling with health issues and it really has made me stop and think how truly blessed I am. I take for granted that I have the strength to workout, to do the little things like lift, stretch, move without pain, and breath without effort–when so many people cannot.
So in celebration of HAD, I propose we all hit the pause button. Instead of complaining about the things we do not have or the things we do not want to do, let’s celebrate the things we can do and get to do today. I think that’s what Health Appreciation Day is all about.
Now I really must go plan the festivities for November which I am declaring Health Appreciation Month. I know, I know, I can be such a HAM!

October 12th 2010Great idea, Joanna! We really need to focus on the fact that we do have the ability to workout and enjoy physical activity and not everyone had that. Great, positive thought to start my day.

October 12th 2010I always want to leave some smart comment, then I read your last line and just giggle and the smart drains out. But yes! I, too, have said many times over the last year “Well, I’ve got my health” so I shall partake of the festivities with you.

October 12th 2010Oh my goodness, it’s so important to appreciate our health! That’s something I’m so struggling with now. Even though I can breathe and sit up straight it kills me that I can’t walk much or that standing hurts. I’m working on the positivity. Slowly…
