Themes for the New Year

I have a tendency to over-think things.

For example, for the last 3 days I’ve been trying to come up with some groundbreaking fitness resolutions for the new year. But nothing I came up with felt quite right.

So instead of resolutions this year I’m going to work on 3 fitness-focused themes:

1. Don’t Over-think It. I read a lot about fitness and nutrition (and I mean a lot!) which has its advantages and disadvantages. Sure, it’s great to be informed and inspired but not so great to get trapped in analysis-paralysis. So this year, I’m going to have confidence in my programs and make like Nike and Just Do It!

2. Do What Matters Most. Taking a page from Steven Covey, I’m going to really zone in on what my body needs the most. If my body is crying for a day off, more carbs, more cardio, a massage, or a nap…I’m going to really listen and respond to what matters most.

3. Single-Tasking. I am the poster-child for multi-tasking. This year I’m going to do my best to focus on one thing at a time, which for me means no eating at the computer or thinking about 100 other things while working out.

Now I really must go log off my computer and grab some lunch, I think.

AMEN!! I have to agree with you on ALL of these! Especially for me, numbers 2 and 3. I used to think multi-tasking meant I was super talented and awesome (hehe) but now I am realizing that it just means I can’t relax. I end up being less efficient sometimes when I multitask, so no more!

Happy new year Joanna!

I like that “analysis-paralysis”- great term. I feel that can happen when getting into the blortex. I love love love love reading blogs. But after hours and hours I become bleary eyed and know it’s not good. I think moderation in this arena is key for me this year.
