Remember when you were in junior high and you broke up with a boyfriend or girlfriend? You might have been heartbroken anywhere between 15 minutes to 4 or 5 days max.
The same is true when you break up with a bad habit, it stinks for the first few days and then you hardly miss it after that.
Do you have any bad habits that are keeping you from being your best?
I do.
I have portion control issues with almonds. Sure, almonds are good for you, but they also contain plenty of calories. I estimate a small handful of almonds to be about 100 calories…which is fine if you eat one or two rounds, but the calories add up fast when you’re popping 3 or 4 mindless handfuls of those suckers every single day.
So, I’ve decided to break up with almonds. Again. Because…
- I love being a few pounds lighter more than I love almonds.
- I love feeling good (and comfortable) in my clothes more than I love almonds.
- I love feeling confident more than I love almonds.
What things can you put in place of almonds? Ice cream, pizza, watching TV, missing another workout, having another drink, peanut butter? Now humor me and replace those things that might be holding you back in the sentences above, say it out loud, and if you mean it and you’re ready to make a change you just might be on your way to breaking your bad habits, too.
It’s been a few days since I’ve split with almonds and I hardly miss them now. Sure, I’ll see almonds from time to time, but for now I want to start dating my skinny jeans again.
Now I really must go talk to a nun about some good habits and get out of the kitchen before I go nuts!

February 3rd 2011My break up was with fast food. When I started this mission in April’2010 I knew that it had to go, so we broke up. We have stayed far a part and while I am sure the profit dip they have experienced since my absence has them feeling heartbroken, I am not feeling it.
I share your desire to eat more almonds in a sitting than is wise. This I am doing better at, but I still have days I twist open that jar too many times.

February 3rd 2011I need to break up with Cashews & Justin’s Maple Almond Butter. Bad habits, for sure! We have a love-hate relationship. We break-up for a few months & then get back together a few months. I need more self-love & control. I feel so much better when we are on a break.

February 3rd 2011my HUGE break up was with pretzels.
not at all inherently bad—not at all good for this misfit.

February 3rd 2011No matter what, even if it is good for us, if we eat too much & can’t portion control.. well, you said it! I do pretty good with my food…. it is other parts of my life I need to get under control! ;-)

February 3rd 2011I had to separate myself from almond butter. Sigh…

February 3rd 2011I don’t think I will break up with chocolate, but I definitely think we should start seeing less of each other. ;)

February 3rd 2011If I really really wanted to shave 5 pounds off, I’d need to break up with my near-daily fro-yo and popcorn habits. But like Charlie Sheen, I’m not quite ready to do it. I could perhaps try a month just to see if I survive. I certainly do when I’m away traveling. But then again I more than make up for it with other stuff. Good luck with the almondgeddon and I’ll give a good think to giving up my addictions :-)

February 3rd 2011I’m right there with you girl on the almonds. Nuts in general. Its just wrong they’re so good and yet.. they add poundage fast. But I do like my skinny jeans, better than a bucket of almonds. Just sayin’ ;)

February 3rd 2011All nuts are hard for me to portion control as well. Another is baked chips.

February 3rd 2011I’m going to have to break up with almonds…and cashews…and walnuts… and pecans….
Thanks for the nudge I needed. It’s time.

February 3rd 2011There are a few foods I should probably break up with. Next week I’m going vegan for the week, so I guess I’ll be sending mixed messages to dairy products. =)
