I LIKE Wordlock

I once told you about Wordlock, the clever little locks that use letters instead of numbers as the code.

I use my Wordlock at the gym all the time and you’ll never guess what word I use as the combo. I’ll give you a hint. It starts with an S and rhymes with nice.

Speaking of nice, the good people at Wordlock are making a donation to the American Heart Association for every 10 people they get to “LIKE” their page on Facebook. How great is that? So with the click of a mouse you could support a great organization, you do-gooder, you!

Here’s the link if you’d LIKE: http://www.facebook.com/wordlock

Now I really must go to the gym and then make my donation to locks of love!

On the Road Again

You’ll never guess where I am today.

So I will tell you.

I’m writing all over the Attune website today. So grab a bowl of COCOA CRISPY CEREAL (<—YUM three times!) and some almond milk and stop by. I’m just a hop, skip, and click away!

Now I really must go download some new Attunes and get a jump on the day!

Lemon Protein Muffins

When life throws you lemons….DUCK!

When a lemon walks into a (protein) bar make….

Lemon Protein Muffins

  • 1/2 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup Vanilla Whey Protein Powder
  • 1 t Baking Powder
  • 1/4 cup Splenda for Baking (you can use your favorite sugar sub here like honey or stevia)
  • 1 egg or Egg Beater
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Almond Milk
  • 1/4 cup Unsweetened Applesauce
  • 1/3 cup Olive Oil
  • Lemon zest to your liking
  • 1/2 the Juice of a Lemon

In a medium bowl combine the dry ingredients. In a separate bowl whisk together the egg and Splenda, stir in the almond milk, applesauce, and olive oil. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir. Finally, fold in the the lemon zest and juice. Spoon batter into mini muffin tins prepared with non-stick spray. Bake at 350 degrees for about 8-10 minutes. Makes approximately 2 dozen mini muffins.

Now I really must go toss on some workout clothes before going to the gym loses its appeal!

5 Random Things I Know For Sure

The first few weeks of Spring are eye-opening, aren’t they?

It’s a time full of renewal, rebuilding, refreshment, and even a few reminders. In fact, just this weekend I was reminded of these…

5 (Random!) Things I Know for Sure

  • 1. It is impossible to complete a home improvement project without taking at least two trips to the home improvement store.
  • 2. 98.2% of Volkswagen Bugs have personalized license plates. Which kind of bugs me 99% of the time.
  • 3. Some of the best conversations take place over wine, coffee, and/or ice cream.
  • 4. Lemon juice and Mr. Clean Magic Erasers remove unwanted self tanning lotion from the palms of your hands. And most importantly…
  • 5. Some people should not wear shorts to the gym until they expose their legs to some sunlight or self tanning lotion.

Now I really must go refocus and then spring for the door for some more research!

Hurry Up and Slow Down

Patience isn’t one of my virtues.

I’m an instant gratification kind of girl when it comes to business, body transformation, food, relationships, shopping, and even spirituality. I want answers and results ASAP. Or faster, thankyouverymuch.

But, over the last few weeks the universe has been trying to tell me to hurry up and slow down. And I’m finally starting to listen. I’ve had a few in-your-face reminders lately that things, big and little, like building a business or a relationship, making soup or cupcakes from scratch, and even gaining muscle or losing fat, all take time and are all worth the investment.

Let’s be honest, it’s hard to slow down in a world of…

Speed eating. Speed reading. Speed dialing. Speed dating. (Speed demons?)

Quick lunch. Quick oats. Quick bread. Quick parking. Quick calls. Quick shops. Quick workouts. Quick trips.

Instant tea. Instant replay. Instant soup. Instant messaging.

Minute rice. 6, better yet, 5-Minute abs.

Express checkout. Express lanes.

Fast forward. Fast food.

My goal is to hit the pause button a little more frequently and enjoy the things that make life a little more delicious like a slow cooked meal, a meaningful conversation, a really good read, a rewarding business development, and the joy that comes along on the journey toward reaching a goal.

We don’t always have to move so fast, just as long as we’re moving forward.

Now I really must go take the dog on a long walk and maybe smell some roses before I jump back on the American Express.

Happy Beer Day!

I don’t drink a lot of beer. But, I have to admit the stuff tastes good to me on moving day, St. Patrick’s Day, and National Beer Day–which just so happens to be today.

Sure, too much beer can lead to trouble, but according to my in-depth research (and by in-depth, I mean a 5 minute Google search), I learned the stuff has some potential health benefits. Want the Cliff Note’s version? Belly up to the protein bar:

  • According to Men’s Health: “Recent research has revealed bioactive compounds in beer that battle cancer, boost your metabolism, and more. And these benefits come on top of the oft-touted upsides of moderate alcohol intake: clot prevention, cleaner arteries, and reduced stress.”
  • And, some good news for Fitness & Spice girls, a Harvard study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed moderate alcohol consumption assisted in preserving the mental faculties of older women, while a Tufts University study concluded alcohol can help preserve bone density, a frequent health issue for aging females.

I’ll drink to that!

Now I really must go…on a beer run!

Eat Like This. Not Like That.

I’m a stickler for table manners.

As a matter of fact, I’ve turned down second dates with guys that talk with their mouths full, who don’t know that the napkin goes on your lap, and who are rude to waiters. Call me picky, just don’t call me for dinner if you aren’t familiar with etiquette 101.

What?! Don’t look at me like that. It’s rude.

While we’re on the subject of eating, I thought I’d share 5 simple techniques I’ve been using lately to keep myself from making a pig out of myself when I eat. Let’s get to it….

  • Don’t eat and drive. Just like you shouldn’t text and drive, eating while you drive is dangerous. Not only could you crash, you could crash your diet very easily. We are all very busy and very important, but unless we’re on a road trip, with a little planning, I think we can all manage to find a few minutes to eat properly without a motor running. Moving on…
  • Sit. Eating over the kitchen sink is efficient but, as my dad would say, just because it’s legal doesn’t make it right.
  • Binge on vegetables not on junk food. Are you a mindless eater? Do you eat excessively when you’re stressed? Me, too. Let’s try pigging out on veggies like carrots and celery instead of potato chips and peanut butter, shall we?
  • Change hands. I’m left handed and when I feel the need to keep from eating too fast, I eat with my right hand. Try it. Just keep that napkin handy in case things get out of hand.
  • Drop your fork. OK, Miss Manners would probably tell you dropping your utensils on the ground isn’t polite, but she’d definitely advise you not to eat off of a dirty fork. So, if you’ve had enough of that cheesecake and can’t stop yourself from eating another delicious bite, drop your fork like it’s hot.

Now I really must go excuse myself, it’s about time I wrap up this Emily Post.

Your Royal High-ness

You know the kind of workout that leaves you feeling…

…like you’re back on track?

…like you can conquer ANYTHING?

…confident? alive? energized?

…depleted and yet refreshed?

…like you want to make healthier nutrition choices?

…like you have the spring back in your step?

I had one of those types of workouts over the weekend. If I could capture and bottle up that feeling, I’d be rich. And famous.

But we all know a workout high doesn’t come in a bottle, it comes from digging deep, gritting your teeth, and pushing your limits.

If you haven’t had one of those workouts in a while, I challenge you to go the extra mile this week.

If you pull it off, you’ll eat feel like a king.

Now I really must go get off my royal highness and drink another court quart of water.
