Because this Sunday my brother Joe, my nephew Ryan, and their good friends Craig, Steve, and Mic will be doing a lot of good by WALKING 100 holes of golf for charity. That’s WALKING 100 consecutive holes of golf, over 33 miles, without a C-A-R-T! This is the second annual 100 Holes of Golf Marathon, by the way. Apparently, the team forgot about all of the sweat, blisters, and sore muscles from the 2009 event…or maybe they didn’t.

There are a lot of fore four letter words on the golf course.

For example…

BALL

BEER

PUTT

HOLE

CLUB

GOOD

Why the word GOOD you ask? Because this Sunday my brother Joe, my nephew Ryan, and their good friends Craig, Steve, and Mic will be doing a lot of good by WALKING 100 holes of golf for charity.

That’s WALKING 100 consecutive holes of golf, over 33 miles, without a C-A-R-T!

This is the second annual 100 Holes of Golf Marathon, by the way. Apparently, the team forgot about all of the sweat, blisters, and sore muscles from the 2009 event…or maybe they didn’t. They really are a few good men.

This year the guys are on a mission to raise money to help Kaileigh Bryant, a beautiful girl living with cystic fibrosis. As you may know, cystic fibrosis is a life-threatening disorder that causes severe lung damage and nutritional deficiencies…not so g-o-o-d!

The 100 Holes of Golf Marathon will be held at Quarry Oaks golf course so if you’re in the neighborhood and would like to stop by and show them some love, they’ll be there for about 12 hours! If you’d like to help them raise some dough or help them spread the word, please visit www.firstgiving.com/walk100holes. I know they’d be grateful.

Now I really must go tell some more people about this incredible event…does anyone have the number for E-S-P-N?!

I’ve never subscribed to Sports Illustrated magazine. As a result, I totally missed the Rick Reilly era, which, in all honesty, was my error.

Thankfully, my brother let me borrow one of Reilly’s books, Hate Mail from Cheerleaders and Other Adventures from the Life of Reilly.

This book is a collection of columns from “The Life of Reilly,” first published in Sports Illustrated. Reilly says this about his style…

“I don’t write about sports. I write about people who happen to be in sports. I write about human joy, sorrow, religion and politics as it weaves itself through sports.”

I couldn’t have said it better myself. His stories make my eyes, and, in some cases, my heart smile. On more than one occasion, I’d finish reading one of his columns in this book, grin and say, “good one” out loud. My brother and I recommend checking out this book (right, Joe?). Or, at the very least, reading Reilly’s June 20, 2005 column, Strongest Dad in the World, if you haven’t already.

He’s a clever one.

I suppose I should start reading ESPN now since Reilly is writing over there. I wouldn’t want to miss out on another word from “one of the funniest humans on the planet,” according to the New York Daily News.

Now I Reilly must go check my mail and see if there’s any hate mail from cheerleaders or (gasp!) Fitness & Spicereaders!
