I like my knitting projects like I like my cardio sessions…not too complicated and really, really fast!
Which is probably why I can only knit two things, winter scarves and dish clothes, because each item can be whipped up in no time flat and they don’t include any fancy steps.
To sum it up, I can knit a mean rectangle. But, having this skill qualifies me to participate in the 2011 Special Olympics USA Scarf Project, a movement that gives knitters and crocheters an opportunity to make U.S. Special Olympians a homemade scarf to welcome them to the games. Since this project started just a few years ago, these scarves are quickly becoming a symbol of unity, community, compassion, and support across the Special Olympics Movement.
If you knit or crochet (or know someone that can) head over to www.scarvesforspecialolympics.org to learn more. There are over 31 groups participating in the Program and each one has some simple guidelines to follow. If your state is not represented just pick Alaska like I did because you know those athletes will be frozen solid.
Now I really must go knit one and curl two!
Patience is not one of my virtues and neither is knitting. My grandmother, and now my mother, have patiently taught me the art of knitting. I am still a bit knitting-challenged despite their best efforts.
